Drive a few minutes out of the borough and the houses change. Postwar ranches, split-levels, and newer subdivisions with poured basements fill in Windsor Township and the edge of York Township. These tend to be simpler radon jobs, but not always:

• A split-level can have a basement, a slab family room, and a garage slab, each its own zone.
• A finished basement means planning the pipe so it doesn’t cut through the room you use most.
• A sealed-up newer house can pull soil gas in hard during a closed-up winter.
